Back in the year 2000 a Los Angeles denim company changed the fashion world forever.
It was called 7 For All Mankind, and they were not your mother’s jeans. They were stylish. They focused on fit as well as on denim wash, and they quickly became a key piece in every fashionista’s wardrobe.
By 2001, Traci and I were both out of college and living in Atlanta, and we can each remember getting our first pair of “7s.” Back then, boot-cut was the style that everyone was after, preferably in a “Dark New York” wash. We loved those jeans and felt so stylish wearing them out with a pair of sexy pumps or sandals.
Now that we are back home in Pensacola, we still love a good pair of jeans, and luckily Pensacola’s downtown shops have a great variety of high-end denim.
From The Market, a mainstay, to the newer kids on the block, Pensacola’s retail scene has grown by leaps and bounds in the past decade. We were very impressed by all of the options that we found downtown.
Last week we made the rounds checking out the jeans at Fig (inside DUH), Bluetique, The Market/Mainly Shoes, Indigeaux Denim Bar & Boutique and Scout. We are happy to report that great jeans are to be found from bootcut to skinny to boyfriend jeans in a variety of washes.
When you need a new pair of must-have jeans, you don’t need to travel far. Shop local and love what you find.
Here’s a look at what we found:
Fig offers modern brands like Current Elliot, MiH, J Brand as well as stylish brands such as Cambio and NYDJ (Not Your Daughter’s Jeans) for the women who prefers a higher waist and a looser fit in the legs but still wants to be on trend. Traci is wearing J Brand’s “Photo Ready” in gray.
Bluetique carries the versatile AG (Adriano Goldschmied) in a variety of washes. Traci is wearing AG”s “Contour 360º” mid-rise. The coastal boutique is also know for a wide selection of colored denim including brands like Lily Pulitzer and Fabrizio Gianni. Another brand that is a customer favorite is Krazy Larry, which offers a side-zip denim slack.
With at least eight different brands, The Market has long been known for a wide selection of denim. They are sure to have a style that will fit your figure and your taste. Lines like J Brand Goldsign, Paige and True Religion will appeal to a contemporary crowd, while Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, David Kahn, Eileen Fisher and Spanx (legging jean) provide stylish looks for a sophisticated woman. Emily is wearing J Brand’s cropped, skinny jean, “Fury.”
Indigeaux Denim Bar & Boutique has quickly made a name of itself as a go-to for good jeans in downtown Pensacola. We love the stylish denim from Paige, Hudson, Mia & Moss, 7 For All Mankind and Joe’s Jeans. Traci is wearing a pair of skinny, black, coated jeans by Hudson.
Scout is know for carrying the most stylish looks from all the hot designers in New York and that includes the denim lines it carries. Frame Denim, Vince , Rag & Bone, Helmut Lang, Seafarer, Strom and Theory are always on the cutting edge of fashion. Emily is wearing Frame Denim’s “Le Garcon.”
